  I can remember when the paperback version of the young people ask book was released and the chapter on pornography had a picture of youths looking at their mobile phones.

  One of our elders was amazed saying "I didn't know you could view pornography via a mobile phone."

  We were not sure if it was a revelation to him because he'd never done it this way before or what.

  The Public Talks

  i remember when i use to give a number of public talks.

  i had a binder with every public talk listed by number in it.

  i don't have it anymore.. when i did the fade in 2002 after 33 years a slave since 1969. i destroyed all my watchtower materials and i had a lot.

  When I used to present public talks the biggest problem I had was trying to get my head around the sometimes incomprehensible lines of reasoning to try and tie the scripture verse to the application. I think that was when I began to wake up.

  I remember an elder who used to quip that you could prepare one talk and change the title to whatever you were asked to present. His reasoning was the outlines all began with how dire the world was, the kingdom was the only hope, so pray, come to meetings, and go out on the work. End to applause by audience who'll have forgotten most of it by the time the Watchtower study ended anyway.

  crazy people shoot up places and kill people.

  take away guns and they will find knives, poison, bombs , etc.. seriously, there are a lot of mentally unhealthy people!

  I think the opening question is disgusting. Mentally ill people are more likely to be the victims of crime than the perpetrators of it.

  So called normal people carry out atrocities on a daily basis. They plan terrorist acts and plant bombs. They rob banks and murder people.

  It's easy to say a person who guns down multiple victims must be a schizophrenic or a person with psychological issues because that's how TV programmes have presented them for years (criminal minds etc) but the facts present a much different story.

  i know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.

  but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.

  if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?

  I remember a watchtower article around 1986 talked about the problem of child abuse by elders in one paragraph. But the whole thrust of the article was that they were removed because of their sins, no mention of their criminal acts.

  The WTB&TS think that they are like the nation of Israel of old, answerable only to themselves and to God. Secular authority and anyone else outside of their borders don't matter, neither do their opinions. When you believe that you are 110% correct in all things you do everything your own way. Sad to say.

  Imagine that you are in the middle of the (JWs version) Great Tribulation. Food and basic supplies are scarce, the secret and not-so-secret police are actively searching for you and your family. You have to make it to Bro Faithful's secret bunker to hunker down with the rest of the congregation. What is utmost on your mind as the male family head?

  I need to shave!

  "Daddy, the police are coming up the drive."

  "Shush child, I have to finish shaving."

  It was a bearded friend who pointed this quirk out to me. In the JW video of a couple of years ago where all the JWs are hiding in the bunker awaiting the end of the world, none of the brothers are sporting 5 o'clock shadows, or look as if they were unshaven after days on the run. There wasn't one bearded man among the whole group! So yes, you've guessed it. When the end of the system is upon them SHAVING will be the first thing on their mind. Possibly even waxing, who knows.
